Tree Trimming, Booksale, Holiday Stories Dec. 5th

The Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries are holding a holiday gift oriented booksale in the Auditorium from 10 am to 1 pm. The festivities upstairs start at 12 noon with a performance by storytellers Cosmic Moxa presenting Christmas Legends from around the world. The duo offers a unique blend of storytelling accompanied by music.

After the storytelling, children are invited to decorate the Library Tree and enjoy snacks and beverages.

Finally we will have a visit from a Certain Special Christmas Person, so bring your wish list. The program is free and open to SouthCoast residents of all ages.

John Bockstoce – Furs and Frontiers of the Far North
Local award-winning author John Bockstoce’s new book on the fur trade in the Arctic region was published by Yale University Press in August 2009. David H. Stam of Syracuse University praises the book as “…a wide-ranging work of natural science, anthropology, economic history, technology, exploration, and international intrigue-all presented with consummate grace, scholarship, and above all enthusiasm.”

Seivis Kerfinsky – So Close to Enlightenment
Local author Seivis Kerfinsky (pen name for Stephen Brown) tells the story of his life and travels in Nepal and India where he studied tantric Buddhism for seven years, including with the entourage of the renowned Tibetan Lama, H.H. Chatral Rinpoche.

Daniel Asa Rose – Larry’s Kidney
Local author Daniel Asa Rose is an award-winning writer – an NEA fellow in 2006, winner of 2 Pen Fiction Awards and an O. Henry Prize. Larry’s Kidney tells the story of his cousin’s bid for a kidney transplant in China. The Boston Globe calls it, “One of the funniest, most touching and bizarre nonfiction books I’ve read. A remarkably talented writer, a great book.”
