Go Green at the Library Summer 2010

The theme for the Summer Reading Program is Go Green at the Dartmouth Public Libraries and will include reading clubs for children, teens and adults. The Dartmouth Public Libraries will be busy with performers, crafts, raffle prizes, movies, Wii games and more. Read our Library Links Summer 2010 Newsletter to find out all the info about what’s happening this summer.

Registration starts Monday June 28th and continues all week through Saturday July 3rd. If you come in to the Childrens’ Room to sign up on Monday, enjoy lemonade and cookies. On Tuesday get temporary tattoos. Wednesday sign ups feature face painting from 2 pm to 5 pm and Thursday offers pencils, stickers, bookmarks and balloons giveaway.  Summer Reading programs and activities begin right after the July 4th Monday holiday and continue through  mid-August.

How will we get into the spirit of conservation, recycling, and the environment?

  • Our craft programs will use supplies and stuff that you find around the house like empty yogurt containers and aluminum foil.
  • We will offer story time at the Dartmouth Farmer’s Market in addition to story times at the Southworth Library
  • We will have programs for adults and teens that showcase our natural resources, birds and farms.

New this summer

  • Kid’s Movie Matinees on Thursday afternoons
  • Craft programs at the North Dartmouth Branch in addition to the main Southworth Library
  • Online raffles to win prizes
  • Guessing Jar for Adults and Teens – guess how much green money is in the jar and win the money!
  • Dinner and a Movie on Thursday nights for adults and teens
  • Receive a Go Green at Your Library Cloth Book Bag after you finish your minutes.
  • No sign-up necessary for craft programs. Come one come all!

The Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Friends of the Dartmouth Public Libraries, the Massachusetts Regional Library System, the Boston Bruins and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

flying saucersPlease join us for our second annual summer reading club for adults and teens. Sign up online at http://www.readsinma.org/dartmouth and start reading. You may read anything you like. Just keep track of the number of minutes you read and enter them online. You should also pick up 2009 Summer Reading punch cards at the library. Mark off an X for every 30 minutes of reading. When a card is full, write in your name and phone number and return the card to the library to enter our raffle. There will be 3 prizes for our adult readers and 3 prizes for the teens. Your punch cards will be used as raffle tickets at the Summer Reading Party in August. The more you read, the more chances you have to win. You do not have to attend the party to win.

Radical Readers Teen Group Meets Monday May 11th at 6 pm.

Inside Out Book Cover

Radical Readers meet on Monday May 11th at 6 p.m. to discuss the book Inside Out by Terry Trueman. The Monday session of this Teen Reading Group at the library features facilitation by Library Associate Joan-Marie Proulx from Southworth and Laurie Dias-Mitchell, the Dartmouth High School Media Specialist. New members are always welcome to join. The group meets at Southworth on the second Monday of the month and the third Wednesday, both times at 6 p.m.
