The Dartmouth Public Libraries will be closed Friday July 3rd and Saturday July 4th to observe the Independence Day Holiday.

Due to forecasts of thunderstorms throughout the day and early evening, the fireworks portion of tonight’s July 2nd Bristol County Savngs Bank Freedom Festival at UMass Dartmouth has been cancelled. The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra Pops concert will be held at 7:45 p.m. in the Main Auditorium. Doors to the 800-seat facility will open at 6:45 p.m.

flying saucersPlease join us for our second annual summer reading club for adults and teens. Sign up online at http://www.readsinma.org/dartmouth and start reading. You may read anything you like. Just keep track of the number of minutes you read and enter them online. You should also pick up 2009 Summer Reading punch cards at the library. Mark off an X for every 30 minutes of reading. When a card is full, write in your name and phone number and return the card to the library to enter our raffle. There will be 3 prizes for our adult readers and 3 prizes for the teens. Your punch cards will be used as raffle tickets at the Summer Reading Party in August. The more you read, the more chances you have to win. You do not have to attend the party to win.

Come to the Summer Reading Kickoff/Blastoff for 2009 on Saturday June 27th from 10 am to 1 pm. There will be face painting, tattoos, crafts and more. This summer there will be reading clubs for pre-schoolers, children, teens and adults. Family movie nights will happen on Thursdays at 7 pm. Craft programs will be held Wednesdays at 2 pm and Thursdays at 10 am. Special Performances will be held on Tuesdays at 10 am and 2 pm. Summer Sunset Stories for families will be held Mondays at 6:30 pm. Wee Read Together adult-baby storytimes will be held on Monday & Wednesdays at 10 am. At the end of the Summer Reading Program, a party wil be held on August 15, 2009 at 12 noon.
